you want it darker

i keep listening to "you want it darker" by Leonard Cohen.

sidestepping the weird christian imagery...

he's singing about being ready to die, experiencing such an extreme... sadness/grief/rejection/anger/despair around his faith and the world... just...

"if thine is the glory, mine must be the shame"

"i didn't know i had permission to murder and to maim"

(i think he is losing his belief in right and wrong. or well.. more like his belief that god is right or that the world isn't just all wrong. not sure exactly but it's fucking rough)
